Keeping your existing number
UPDATED 22 SEP 2026·3 MIN READ
You never lose your number. What changes in week one is how calls to it reach us, and there are two different mechanisms behind that — worth knowing apart before you ask your carrier for either.
Diverting — what happens in week one
A divert (a call-forward set with your existing carrier) is what makes the week-one promise possible. It takes effect the same day, your number stays registered exactly where it always was, and every call to it now rings through to us.
Porting — the slower, optional step
Full porting — moving the number itself onto our carrier account — is optional, runs in the background after you're live, and is entirely between carriers. It can take weeks; that's a regulatory process outside our control, not something we're slow to start.
GOOD TO KNOW
Diverting is what we recommend for almost everyone. It gets you live fastest, it is trivial to reverse, and most businesses never actually need the full port to run day to day.
